(04/09/06) April Showers bring May flowers but it also brings with it the start of baseball season. The 9U Redbirds have began their 2006 season with a great start. The team played their first game on April 8th against the Cedar Rapids Cougars at Wescott Park in Walcott, IA. In the first game the boys were able to shake off the rust from the winter and give us a glimpse of all the hard work that they have done. For many of the boys it was the first time that they played a full 9 innings of baseball, but the boys showed their hard work and determination with securing the first win of the season.
(04/16/06) On April 15th, the 9U Redbirds were invited to play against the 9U Quad City Hitmen in their opening day festivities. Both teams came out to play ball and played a great game. Even though we didn’t secure the win, the boys showed how much more they have improved since their first game of the season. The team is really starting to come together and work well as a team. At the game the 9U Redbirds were able to showcase not only their strong depth in pitching but also fielding, speed and hitting abilities. If the first two games give us any insight into the rest of the season, it will be a great one. The 9U Redbirds will play in their first tournament of the season this upcoming weekend, April 22nd & 23rd, all the fans are looking forward to even more great playing from the boys.
